NEBOSH IGC in Patna: What It Is, What It Costs, and What to Do Instead

Important notice: PSIC Global is not a NEBOSH approved centre. This page provides independent information about NEBOSH qualifications. For NEBOSH enrollment, contact an official NEBOSH approved centre in your area.

What is NEBOSH IGC?

NEBOSH IGC (International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety) is a UK-based safety qualification that has become a standard requirement for senior safety roles across India, the Gulf, and internationally. It is run by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, based in the UK.

The qualification has two units. IG1 covers health and safety management — how organisations plan, implement, and review safety systems. IG2 is a practical risk assessment, which you conduct and submit based on a real or scenario workplace. There is no traditional written exam for IG2. IG1 uses an open book exam format where you answer questions based on a scenario provided by NEBOSH.

It takes most candidates 3 to 4 months of part-time study. Some people finish faster with intensive study; others take 6 months while working full time. NEBOSH sets the examination schedule — you book your IG1 exam through your approved centre on the dates NEBOSH publishes.

Who should consider NEBOSH IGC?

NEBOSH IGC makes sense if you are aiming for senior HSE roles in large organisations, targeting Gulf employment where NEBOSH is specifically named in job postings, or planning a long career in international safety consulting.

For safety officers in Bihar working at construction sites, pharma plants, or power projects, NEBOSH IGC will eventually matter — but usually at years 3 to 5 of your career, not at the start. Starting with a diploma or IOSH Managing Safely and then adding NEBOSH once you have site experience is a more practical sequence for most people in this region.

If your specific goal is a Gulf job in construction or oil and gas, NEBOSH IGC is genuinely valued there. Saudi Aramco contractors, L&T International, and large Gulf EPC companies list it in job descriptions regularly. The credential carries real weight in that market.

NEBOSH IGC fees in India — what it actually costs

The cost has two separate components: NEBOSH examination fees charged in British pounds, and your course provider’s delivery fee charged in rupees.

NEBOSH examination fees for 2026: IG1 is approximately £250–280 (around ₹26,500–29,700 at current rates). IG2 is approximately £95–110 (around ₹10,100–11,700). Total exam fees sit at roughly ₹37,000–41,000. These go directly to NEBOSH through your approved centre — the centre does not keep them.

Course delivery fee: this varies widely. Online providers charge ₹8,000–15,000. Classroom providers in major cities charge ₹20,000–35,000. This is what pays for study materials, tutor access, and exam administration support.

Total realistic cost for NEBOSH IGC in India: ₹45,000–75,000 depending on city, provider, and format. If you fail and need to resit, each unit costs approximately £130 (around ₹13,800) to reattempt.

Is there a NEBOSH approved centre in Patna?

As of mid-2026, there is no NEBOSH approved centre operating in Patna or anywhere in Bihar that we are aware of. Bihar-based candidates have three options: study through an online approved provider, travel to Kolkata or Delhi for a classroom programme, or enroll with a distance learning NEBOSH provider and sit the exam at an approved centre in a nearby city.

This matters for logistics and cost. If you are in Patna and want to do NEBOSH, factor in travel or accommodation costs for the exam sitting, and ensure your online provider is a genuine NEBOSH approved centre — not just a prep course provider using the NEBOSH name.

NEBOSH IGC syllabus overview

IG1 — Management of Health and Safety covers eight elements: why organisations manage health and safety (legal, moral, financial reasons), how health and safety management systems work, policy and leadership, planning and implementation, measuring and reviewing performance, incident investigation, auditing, and the construction of a health and safety management system for an organisation.

IG2 — Risk Assessment in Practice requires you to identify hazards in a real or provided workplace, assess the level of risk, and recommend controls. You document this as a formal risk assessment report and submit it online. NEBOSH provides detailed guidance on the format. Most candidates complete IG2 in their own workplace, which is both convenient and practically useful.

Career outcomes with NEBOSH IGC

In India, NEBOSH IGC holders typically move into Senior Safety Officer, HSE Officer, or Safety Manager roles at ₹8–14 LPA, depending on years of experience and the employing sector. Gulf roles for NEBOSH-certified safety professionals start at ₹15–25 LPA equivalent, with experienced candidates in senior roles earning considerably more.

The qualification is recognized by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and counts toward IOSH Graduate Membership. Combined with a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent experience, it can form part of the pathway to Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
